Photonics KTN
The UK has over 700 small companies developing specialist photonics applications, ranging from laser technologies to operating systems. This number further increases when related sectors such as displays are included. There is an opportunity to change the fragmented nature of the photonics industry to achieve wide-scale success.

The Photonics KTN will tap into the wealth of knowledge in UK universities and other government-funded research centres, attract more large companies, and identity technology partnering opportunities to meet the requirements of the industry.

The Photonics KTN is actively looking to create new collaborations in existing and emerging technologies. Through the use of a new collaboration workspace, we will soon be able to offer these Special Interest Groups an online workplace to find, discuss, and share information; run a project; coordinate account activities; and collaborate with and learn from other team members. These workplaces will provide:

- a web addressable workspace where information can be posted and read, with controlled access by community members.

- a stable and bookmark-able community URL that can be made easy to remember and be thought of as a dedicated website.

- a discussion forum with an email address as the (short) name of the community. Email-centric users might think of a community space as a place to exchange messages and content by mail.

- a set of predefined folders for reading and sharing content. The functional type of the community space determines the set of folders. You can think of the folders as a community-specific organization for shared content.

- appropriate collaboration tools which can be added to according to need. Templates include email discussions, content folders, team calendars, tasks lists, and dashboards.
