DOKOM21 SELECTS TRANSMODE FOR ITS NEW BACKBONE NETWORK
dokom21.jpg DOKOM21, a regional German carrier based in Dortmund has deployed C/DWDM from Transmode, a leading provider of Optical Networking Solutions in its new Backbone Network. The agreement has been signed between DOKOM21, Transmode and the systems integrator ITM.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – 6 March, 2008  – DOKOM21’s new next generation optical backbone network includes interconnection of several local exchanges in the Dortmund area as well as development of the network in the wider region.  The first backbone nodes will become operational starting now.

The carrier decided to use WDM technology (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), which makes it possible to fully utilise of the inherent capacity of optical fibre. In addition WDM makes it possible to carry a number of different services such as Gbit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and ESCON at the same time and therefore offers the necessary flexibility, which DOKOM21 required.

“The decision to use Transmode is strategic in nature" commented Frank Dettmann, who is responsible for the DOKOM21 transport network system development. “ It has to do with the technological basis of our future network, and we are delighted to be able to build an upwardly compatible, scalable and very flexible network with Transmode’s TS- and TM- series which will underpin our future growth“.

DOKOM21's decision to deploy Transmode deepens an existing relationship; the carrier has been using Transmode’s TS-series optical platform since 2006. “The excellent experiences we have had from multiple projects with Transmode and ITM have naturally influenced our decision," said Dettmann. “In addition to this, a further vital factor was the integration of Layer-2-Functions for Ethernet-services which Transmode has just announced."

“The new project with DOKOM21 is a further significant step for Transmode into the important German market place“, said Björn Andersson, Vice President Sales, Transmode. “At this point in time  more than 35 City and Regional carriers along with major enterprises in Germany have chosen our platform to provide their customers with fast, simple and economical services."
