MALAYSIAN NETWORK PROVIDER FIBERAIL EXPANDS WITH TRANSMODE WDM SYSTEMS Fiberail, a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia (TM) - and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), operates an extensive fiber-optic network throughout the country. The newly enhanced network will deliver “triple-play” voice, video and data services and other total business solutions. Fiberail needed to boost its network capacity between Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur and Singapore due to the rapid increase in bandwidth requirement from its customers. The latest expansion has involved two main parts of Fiberail’s network, both of which have been improved with the Transmode TM-Series WDM platform as well as the network management system TNM installation. The first is a point to point connection in Kuala Lumpur, which provides 10G, STM-16 and 1GE services; the 10G is a back-up and protection link for a major mobile operator. The link is based on a combination of CWDM and unamplified DWDM over a single fibre to save on fibre usage. The second part is a larger amplified DWDM network between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bharu on Malaysia’s border with Singapore. The Transmode systems have met and surpassed our expectations in all areas.” The equipment Fiberail selected included units of Transmode’s TM-Series multi-reach transport platform, which is designed for applications in metro or regional networks. The iWDM (intelligent WDM) technology provides cost-optimized transport of multiple services while simplifying an optical transport network. iWDM also provides forward error correction functionality to extend the reach of a system while maintaining the quality of the services and performance monitoring for SLA maintenance. Transmode’s partners in both parts of this development deal are Kuala Lumpur-based VADS Bhd., one of Malaysia’s leading Managed ICT Service Provider and Actel, a leading strategy and technology consulting firm. Transmode is working with VADS and Actel on further network improvements in Malaysia for Fiberail and other network service providers. “We are delighted to be jointly announcing this important customer win with VADS today,” said Björn Andersson, Transmode’s Vice President of Sales. “This installation in Malaysia is further evidence of the company’s growing reputation in the Asian region for delivering an effective solution at the right price and on time”
